Joy Flight Over Phillip Island.

Date: 9/6/2008

Posted By: Chris - 9/6/2008

Well, as you know, the second attempt to get to Asses Ears was once again thwarted by weather. We'll have to try again another time, but, heaven help us, we'll get there eventually!

Instead, Terry and I went up for a circuit with me in the back and an instructor in front, for some altered CofG practice. Terry has already posted his thoughts on the flight.

Once we dumped the instructor, we took off for a local flight, and once in the air, decided to fly over towards Phillip Island. I took a few happy snaps along the way.
Weather out to the East wasn't too bad, but looking back to the West confirmed the weather reports were right. Asses Ears was definately a no go.

Our trusty steed. VH-ADR. A Cessna 172 Model 'N' I believe.

This is just a shot from the back seat as we did the CofG circuit. Turning crosswind I believe after take-off from Barwon Heads on runway 35.

Again from the back seat. turning base for runway 35 in the CofG circuit.

Back seat still. This is (I believe) some sort of water treatment plant in the 13th Beach area. Still on base for 35.

Finals for 35 on the CofG circuit.

Not easy to see, but this is a shot of Arthurs Seat. (dark green mountain area just to the right of centre.)

The township of Flinders, with Phillip Island directly ahead.

West Head, near Flinders. We are currently right in the middle of a restricted area, but it's out of action until November, except for 2 days this week!

Point Leo, and you can just see the reservoir too.

Just a quarry. On Phillip Island I believe..

Phillip Island race Track. Note the mini race track that's the same shape and layout as the main track. To help teach the riders the course?? Maybe they run mini bikes or go cart for the public on it? Anyone know?

The race track again.

Now, Russell Crowe has a property in Flinders. We 'think' this might be it. Appeared to be one of the largest there, had awesome location as far as views goes, and there is a high wall around most of it. Fair bet I'd suggest. Anyone know of a source of pics of his place we can check to see if this is the right place? A 2 minute Google didn't help me.

Lovely, leafy (extremely!) Sorrento.
